About Sallie Peake

A graduate of Spartanburg Community College in South Carolina, Sallie Peake studied business administration in preparation for a career in local government leadership. Her continuing education credentials include a certificate of completion from the Leadership Institute for Mayors (LIM), as well as a certificate from the Clark University Institute of Government. Sallie Peake most recently was the first African-American woman to serve as mayor of Wellford, SC.

Ms. Peake formerly served as a city council representative in Wellford, as well as on the Spartanburg, SC, city council. In these elected positions, she acted as a key liaison between community members and the council, attending meetings and participating in decision-making processes. Additionally, Sallie Peake assisted in the creation of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for her local constituents.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Sallie Peake has been an active member and treasurer of the Usher Ministry, and has served on the food committee for the Union of Churches.
